Our First Step as Young Journalists 📝

Today was a very special day for all of us in the Journalism Club at Machhapuchchhre IB World School. With the help and guidance of our amazing mentors Ms. Deepika Dahal,Ms. Sumitra Sapkota, Ms. Sabina Poudel, Ms. Kabita Chalise, Ms. Yukti Karki, and Mr. Lovedev Sharma, we officially started this blog to share our journey, ideas, and the work we do as student journalists.

What We Did Today 👇

  • We prepared interview questions on our own. It was exciting to think like real reporters!

  • Then, we conducted our very first formal interviews, not with outside guests but with our school's CEO, principal, school coordinator, admin officer, finance manager, and a few of our facilitators from PYP and MYP, along with the librarian and school counsellor. This helped us learn how to ask questions, listen carefully, and make people feel comfortable while talking.

  • We also discussed how this blog will be used to share our writings, interviews, reports, and activities.

  • Most importantly, we learnt the value of teamwork, planning, and being curious learners.

All the facilitators of the Journalism Club supported and motivated us throughout the session. Their mentorship helped us feel confident and creative.

This blog is not just a website. It’s a place where we will express our thoughts and show what students from Grades 6 to 9 are capable of when we work together!

This is our first time doing something like this, and we’re really excited to begin this journey. We know it's just the beginning, and there’s so much more for us to learn and improve. Step by step, we aim to make this blog stand out with a unique look and showcase all our creative works and activities.

We also want to apologise to our readers because we couldn't record or collect all the videos and photos of the interviews and activities we did today. We were not fully prepared, and some of the photos or videos we managed to take may not be in high resolution. Still, we’ve uploaded everything we have, and to make it easier for you to watch, we’ve combined the short clips into one video.

Today, we also learnt many technical and media-related skills, and we’re confident that next time we’ll come with better preparation and even more exciting content.

We are planning to discuss with our facilitators how we can further improve this blog and grow it into a strong platform for student voices and expression.

Thank you for reading and supporting us — this is just the beginning!
